Hi there!
Welcome to our February Finale for Kalynn Bayron's Cinderella is Dead.
Trigger Warning: Violence, Misogyny, Domestic Abuse, Murder, Public Execution, Homophobia, Bullying, Child Arranged Marriage, Child Abuse, Necromancy, Human Trafficking
Overall
We liked this novel a ton. It was a really, well-written balance of socio-political commentary and fantasy-action-romance elements.
Sophia and Constance
Ceraya does believe that Constance is definitely Sophia's rebound after Erin and absolutely wouldn't have gone with Constance as willingly if Sophia had not been interested in her. We respect their relationship, but their romance wasn't significantly necessary for the story to progress. That being said Brieanna still loves them.
Constance on her own was amazing, we liked that she received the throne alone. Making a Council was a great idea. Hmmmm, we wonder who was on that council?
Sophia was too nice to her parents in the end, she should have at least yelled at them. They deserved more consequences for their actions, especially her father.
We also had some issues with Erin- she was written to be rather disagreeable and we didn't have any care for her other than hoping she got out of her shitty situation in the end.
The World
Brieanna was hoping that there would be a deeper connection of rebels that we got to meet, but in the end, we're glad that we didn't because too many characters can over-complicate a book.
If the book had gone deeper, we would have liked to enjoy meeting more characters and maybe even more rebel network details.
Conclusion
If you enjoy fantasy and comedy and action and maybe a tiny bit of romance, this one is for you!
With love, see you soon!
