This book holds a special place in my heart for several reasons, but the most important ones are the incredible writing and the clear anti-white-savior message.

I don't care that it's as in-your-face as it is, but it's quite an incredible story. Read it. The characters are so well-written and believable that they're damn near my cousin's spitting image. The girls, especially, as the author switches from view point to view point, are so real to me, and I love every one of them, despite their imperfections and poorly handled youths; I relate so incredibly hard.

The writing here is impeccable. Holy shit, Barbara. I remember the first time I read this one and now, on my second read, the gorgeous prose once again blows me away, and how I love the poignant dialogue and the internal monologue of each character.

Please give this book a shot.

-Much love,

Brieanna
