The sequel to the acclaimed A Court of Thorns and Roses, this novel continues the enrapturing story of Feyre and her Fae fellows.
First thought - this one was significantly better than the first in the series, which is usually how it goes. The characters are familiar and established, and the subplots are incredibly interesting. Granted- the author has a habit of waiting until the last few chapters for most of the action to take place, but in this case, Feyre goes on many adventures that are incredibly believable within this world of magic and very, very powerful creatures.
Second Thought - I am in LOVE with how the author flipped the script. I figured that Rhysand was Feyre's mate, based on the end of the first book, but Tamlin being the baddie and being in cahoots with an even worse baddie? And then FEYRE GOING BACK TO THE SPRING COURT AT THE END TO INFILTRATE?!?!?! Oh I am SO ready for the next book. This series turned out to be a hidden jewel in my opinion. It feels like the first book, ACOTAR, was really just a set-up for the drama of later books, and I am VERY glad about it. The second book had this series blossoming and I am greatly looking forward to more twists and turns.
Third Thought - I love the Inner Circle, genuinely. I love every single one of them. The author did a magnificent job at creating a powerful group dynamic with strong characters that speak for themselves and are entirely believable. This makes me interested in the authors' other series (Throne of Glass, I think?). Cassian, Azriel, Mor, Amren, Rhysand, and Feyre are all entirely distinguishable from one another and yet are united on the same front - defeating Highburn; and I appreciate that the author doesn't make defeating Highburn too easy. In fact, it doesn't even happen in this second book. And the relief I experinced knowing that the Mating Bond between Feyre and Rhysand is still in place was magical. I was so worried that it was actually broken that I almost cried.
Overall- this bad boy was so much better than the first and has warranted this series a re-read when I complete it. This is my first walk into adult fiction, so I appreciate that it has mature content, because it trusts me with it, Thank you to Ceraya for recommending this series and having it be our first read. More to come on this one!
