The third installment of Sarah J. Maas's ACOTAR Series has been a whirlwind. I knew that we were being built up for an earth-shattering war, but damn did Sarah bring it. She not only set us up in ACOMAF for this, but even back so far as the beginning and end of ACOTAR turns out to have lead us to this moment.
Rhysand and Feyre and Tamlin's love triangle comes to a close, at least as far as I know. Turns out a world war will help some vengeful people put emotions to the side and focus on saving the world from the King of Highburn. Who is the worst, by the way. Rhysand and Feyre's love is so incredibly gorgeous and well written, I am blown away and swooning. Tamlin's anger at Feyre's manipulation of the Spring Court is valid, though, I believe. The tragedy in the finale, and Tamlin's role in rescuing Rhysand was unexpected, but wonderful.
The war with the forces of Highburn was of such a great magnitude, that it carried the entire book. The romance was tuned down compared to ACOMAF and ACOTAR, and violence was greatly increased. The action was heavy and real, and the stakes were incredibly high. Knowing that if the Cauldron was destroyed, it would destroy the world as well, and then knowing that Amren's transformation effectively did that, was pretty important, lol.
In this particular book, a intense-action horror-adventure with a spicy romance, Sarah's writing really shines. The style isn't dense at all, the romance is high, and the word choices are perfectly digestible, while still glittering with embellishment. Sarah's description of action and violence isn't too over-bound with detail, which leaves much to the reader's imagination, which I usually appreciate in my fiction. Her romance and fantasy is perfectly detailed without being burdensome as well, and her drama and dialogue is engaging and insightful.
Feyre's comment in the last chapters of the book, that human and fae can live in harmony without harm, is moving and I believe we should apply that to our own lives. Even though there are differences, we can love each other and protect each other from greater evils in the world.
-Much love,
Brieanna
