Good Evening youngins! I liked it but I was confused because of the political stuff and also there were entirely too many characters to keep up with. So much so, that the author had to put a list of characters at the beginning of the book with a description of who they are and where they're located. This is entirely too much. I liked that it seemed that in the beginning, this book would include multiple storylines coming together in the end like in Love, Actually, so I was ok with it. But then I kept waiting for the characters to meet and for the storylines to merge. I kept waiting until the end of the book and then the book ended and I was still waiting so I was even more confused. Here's what I picked up.

Storyline One - Serapio and Xiala

This was my favorite storyline to follow because these characters were the most interesting and their plotline honestly made the most sense even before they met each other. Xiala was cool to read about from the jump because she woke up in a jail cell assuming she was put there because she was drunk on the street the night before but then we find out that she slept with someone's wife. Hot girl shit. Serapio on the other hand got his eyes stiched up and a crow carved into his back because he's a vessel for a god and god stuff ya know? Just girlie things.

The Storyline with The Watchers (a political group in the book) was confusing because several political concepts were not being explained very well, and also it was hard to understand because I'm dumb, so it was like a double whammy of confusion. It was not explained well, but basically, there was a procession and an assassination attempt on the leader. And then, I thought it was the leader that died, but then it turns out it wasn't the leader and I was shocked??? And the actual leader was attending a meeting but then she was like a double but then she was making real decisions and she was a leader instead? I really have no idea to be honest. And the POV's of the characters were not clearly distinguished from each other so it was harder to determine who was being talked about. Help.

In conclusion, this book should be just a book about Serapio and Xiala because I love them and they are so cute and Serapio is so dumb for sacrificing himself. I think he was dumb for sacrificing himself in the first place but then it was dumb for the author to deus ex machina his sacrifice because from the very moment that we met him, he was on a journey to fulfill this purpose, and then all of a sudden there were no consequences to his actions. He knew that he was going to die, but then the author saved his life for no apparent reason.

-Much love,
