Hi there! For Women's History Month, I decided to read an autobiography by one of the world's most nonsensical women - Tina Fey. Bossypants is incredibly charming and fun to read - I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day. It flew by and I genuinely wished it had been longer, but after thinking about how much other work she must have been doing while writing this, I'm glad it came out as perfectly as it did, and it came out exactly as it should have. Short, sweet, to the point, and including as many irreverent jokes as possible.

I'm impressed with both her talent and outlook on life. A grounded positivity carries the readers through this whirlwind of a life, and a practical, not-so-serious demeanor creates a camaraderie with the audience. Tina Fey is real. She's not some out-of-touch rich person who sometimes writes for a paycheck. She cares about her friends, coworkers, family, and career so deeply that it guides her life from one movement through the next in a rollercoaster fashion - one moment she's working as a teenage box-office attendant, and the next thing you know - BOOM, she's writing for SNL.

Another thing I loved about this one was that we learned about Tina's childhood. Again, proving that she is indeed human, like us readers, and not some space robot in human skin (or is she?), I do believe that her writing about her childhood was incredibly valuable to this book. It allowed us to see her growth. She went from someone who, for a long time, was being rejected and stepped on, to someone who called shots and wrote some of the most legendary comedy sketches to go down at SNL.

One of the other things that I loved about this book was reading about the backstage and internal work that went on for the comedy at SNL and the work she put into 30 Rock. This inspired me to watch the show and to go back and watch some of her SNL sketches, both bits that she wrote and skits she performed in. Hearing about some of the lovely and nasty things that went on was a treat, and it makes me glad to know I'm not the grossest person I've ever heard of.

Conclusion: You should read this book - it's fun and quick and a slice of modern comedy history I think we should all read about. And maybe try to change the industry for the better. ;)

-Much love,

Brieanna
