Ok, kids go pee, grab your snacks and headphones and tablets, your neck pillows and blankets, and buckle up because we have a long road ahead of us. Get ready for another slooooww burn. That's not to say this book was bad by any means. I loved it and I thought it was a great ending to an even greater story. I'm just a fan of cover-to-cover action.
Even though we don't get any real action until the last third of the book that only means more Grace/Hudson time, Eden/Heather time, and FINALLY Jaxon/Flint time. Grace and Hudson are the perfect couple. However, everyone has mental health issues, none more so than our resident Brit-boy hottie who was tortured for 200 years by his vile parents. Of course, that means he has things he needs to process and unfold within himself which occasionally puts a strain on their relationship because while he is trying to deal with his issues so that he can give all of himself to Grace he is inadvertently making her feel he is pushing her away. Speaking of hotties with terrible, horrible, no good, very bad parents: Jaxon Vega. Grace's OG mate and broody stereotypical vampy bad boy has finally FINALLY decided to let himself be freaking happy for once and give our resident golden retriever boy Flint a chance. Although it was a bit rocky for most of the book due to political reasons but also definitely broody Vega boy reasons, we got there in the end and it was beautiful. Another beautiful pairing we were blessed with was Heather and Eden. Like many of you, I too was shipping Macy and Eden and I still kinda do but now that we have finally met Heather and she's no longer just a couple of texts every half a book or so I freaking love her and feel like her personality, while it would stomp hot pink Macy into the ground, is perfect for Eden. We also get a bit of Grace/Macy therapy time which was really good to see because tbh I have been worried about that girl since Covet and that fateful moment when we lost Xavier.
I'm not going to dwell on our lost friends throughout this series but I can't talk about the rest of the book without mentioning the elephant in the room and the driving force of the novel. Mekhi is dying. And the crew is trying desperately to not lose another friend. When a group of paranormal teens and one spitfire human decide they want to cheat death, they find a way to do it. Albeit by the skin of their teeth, dumb luck, and Ms. Tracy comin' through with that Deus ex Machina I was praying for. But still. They did it. The impossible.
All that being said, this book was, like most road trips, long, occasionally eventful and fun, but also at times uncomfortable and boring, and yes I did have to pee multiple times. But also like a road trip, it had a destination and we arrived safely and in one piece with plenty of action and adventure to make our sore butts worth it. Like I mentioned earlier, this was a beautiful end to the best series I have ever read. I do say that lightly because I fall in love with every series I read but this one has my whole heart currently. Absolutely cannot wait for Remy's book!
